In Provence in southern France, CHANEL staged a runway show at Carrières de Lumières, where towering white limestone walls framed the collection in sharp geometric lines.
Jean Cocteau’s film Testament of Orpheus, which he directed and starred in, provided the starting point. At the film’s quarry setting, the show revisited the friendship between Cocteau and Gabrielle Chanel.
“One scene in the film is particularly striking: a man with a black horse’s head comes down the steps and enters Carrières de Lumières. His shadow falls across the white walls.”
Virginie Viard, CHANEL’s creative director at the time
The movement of clothing met the layers of rock and shifting shadows. With dust in the air and the sounds of birds and cicadas in the background, the scene evoked the passage of time.
01. Poetry and Romance in Limestone
Once a major source of white limestone for construction, Carrières de Lumières has since become a setting for artistic expression. Artists have found a sense of scale, beauty and romance within its vast stone walls.

For Evian Stone, 21PARKHOUSE® takes inspiration from limestone textures and the quarry’s simple, free-spirited, romantic character. Our design team translated these qualities into a flexible stone finish for contemporary interiors and architectural facades.

02. Evian Stone by 21PARKHOUSE®
Evian Stone has fine, scattered patterns that recall splashes of ink across a pale surface. Its subtle, lightly sandy texture reflects the individuality and elegance of Renaissance art.

03. Performance and Cost Control
Natural Textures Through 3D Coating
21PARKHOUSE® uses a 3D coating process to reproduce the texture of natural materials, including stone, wood and woven surfaces. Designers can choose from a range of three-dimensional textures to suit their projects.
Class A Fire Performance, Formaldehyde-Free Material
21PARKHOUSE® specifies Class A fire performance and a formaldehyde-free, low-odour material for projects where teams need to complete fire inspections and prepare for opening.
The flexible yet tough sheets can bend around curved walls and cylindrical columns. Installers can bond them directly to prepared wall surfaces, giving designers more freedom to work with different architectural forms.
Lightweight Sheets, Lower Overall Costs
At 3–6 kg/m² and a thickness starting at approximately 2 mm, flexible stone is light to transport and quick to install. Compared with conventional stone systems, overall project costs can be approximately 30%–60% lower, depending on the specification, transport and installation conditions.
04. Selected Applications
